Wild Ponies Assateague Island
New place to add to yoour travel bucket list: Assateague Island, an amazing strip of land located off the coast of Maryland and Virginia. With beautiful white sand beaches, Assateague attracts a fair share of tourists, but it’s also home to a large herd of wild ponies.
Others believe that the horses arrived by early colonial settlers. A Spanish ship wreck was discovered recently in the waters off Assateague which lends credit to the first theory. The ponies have become well-adapted and enjoy the solitude Assateague Island. When traveling by boat, you may encounter Assateague ponies along extensive bay habitats and pine forest of the 37 mile barrier island.
